Expansive, interactive walls replace interactive flat panels to enhance student-led learning
Calgary, Alberta --- January 25, 2017 --- Nureva Inc., an award-winning collaboration-solutions company, announces the implementation of its Span visual collaboration system into all 12 classrooms at St. Vincent’s Catholic Primary School in North West London, UK. The implementation produced immediate results by increasing student engagement in all subject areas, including for students with special needs. Prior to integrating the Span system at the school, collaborative lessons were limited to two or three students working at an interactive display. Now, 10 or more students can work together at the wall with more participating on their laptops or tablets. The Span system has transformed the school’s classroom walls into expansive interactive surfaces, taking collaborative student-led learning to a new level.
St. Vincent’s follows a project-based learning approach, where teachers first use the Span system to capture project ideas from the students. Once a topic is selected, a new canvas is created and used as the project workspace. The Head of Project-Based Learning (PBL) also uses the system to track project progress and share this information with teachers as a form of assessment. In addition to supporting PBL, teachers are seeing a positive change in the way students with special needs are interacting and learning together. For example, using Span software on tablets allows them more time to think about their contributions before sharing them anonymously on the canvas for everyone to see. This alone has helped to increase their confidence, and it’s encouraging every student to participate.
“The reaction from the students and teachers to the Nureva Span system has been very positive,” said Charlotte Carey, St. Vincent’s IT coordinator. “Children love being able to work together on a project and see the immediate results of their collaboration.”
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to learn that the Span system immediately began to produce a higher level of student-engagement at St. Vincent’s Primary School,” said Nancy Knowlton, Nureva’s CEO. “This demonstrates the important role that the right technology can play in supporting collaborative, student-led learning.”

About the Span system
Designed for use in a broad range of collaborative activities, the Span system is ideal for developing 21st-century skills including creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. The system draws upon familiar, simple and flexible tools already widely used in paper-based creative processes in the classroom including sticky notes, sketches, images and flip charts. The system uses a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model to enable collaboration on an expansive digital canvas. Students capture their contributions using personal devices, either a computer or a tablet, and share them on the digital canvas in the cloud. The Span system transforms classroom walls into interactive panoramic workspaces for small-group or whole-class collaboration and is available in a variety of models and configurations.
