New patents for Nureva’s revolutionary Microphone Mist technology

Posted by Nancy Knowlton | President and CEO of Nureva Inc.

We are delighted to share that a number of the patents that we have applied for, relating to the fundamental technology behind our Microphone Mist™ technology, have now been issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). (See the press release.) These three patents are essential to the Microphone Mist technology that we have created and that is embedded in our audio products.

Why patents matter to our customers

Our customers can now see tangible evidence of our investments in a groundbreaking audio technology for their benefit:

  • The creation of a technology that is fundamentally and provably differentiated from other technologies in the market. As we have been told many times, IT managers and conference call participants are frustrated by audio pickup challenges inherent in traditional technologies. Now, they can appreciate that a new technology, with an entirely novel approach to resolving their persistent problems, can actually do so.
  • A technology platform that will allow us to develop innovative products over a sustained period of time. Yes, today matters, but IT managers have an eye on the future as well. Improvements and advancements are expected, so knowing that a company like Nureva has its underlying technology patented provides a level of confidence.

And our family of patents demonstrates our continuing investment in what is a rich technology area. It’s not “one and done” here – there are multiple novel elements to our technology. Our products will embody those inventions and their improvements and extensions through time.

Why patents matter to us

As a technology company, intellectual property is our lifeblood. Having patents issued, as these three patents have, means that we have a runway for future developments. It’s not just the products in the market that our customers can touch and experience. It’s about what else is in the pipeline (and you can be sure that there is a pipeline).

There’s also a level of pride and recognition for us. We take pride in creating something new, and the fact that the USPTO acknowledges the novelty of our inventions matters to us. That pride extends not just to the company, but also to the individuals who invest their considerable intellects into creating and documenting something that is entirely new.

But patents aren’t everything

Beyond our patents, we have invested a great deal in know-how – the way in which we do things. It is almost inevitable that in the course of creating a new technology, inventors go down wrong paths. Those aren’t failures – they are part of the know-how that must be acquired to make something work. The sooner we discover what doesn’t work, the quicker we’ll be to find what can and does work.

We also invest in software, the instructions that leverage the hardware and firmware that we have invented, and that adds to our products’ functionality through time.

So, we’re celebrating these three patents at Nureva. We’re happy for the recognition and the success and committed to continuing to develop advancements in many different aspects of the underlying technology.
